Commercial Ventilation & Mechanical | Arctic Cooling

Commercial ventilation designed, installed and maintained in-house across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. AHU, ductwork and kitchen extract, kept compliant.

Commercial ventilation and mechanical services

Air handling, ductwork and extract — commercial ventilation designed, installed and maintained across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor by our own mechanical engineers. Ventilation is one of the seven trades Arctic Cooling delivers in-house, so the same contractor who surveys your system installs it and keeps it running. There’s no handover to a separate maintenance firm and no gap where responsibility falls between two companies. We’ve traded since 2016, and our in-house team is approaching 40 engineers covering all seven trades.

We work for facilities managers, main contractors and building owners around Heathrow and across the Thames Valley, across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. If we can deliver airside at a live airport, we can deliver in your building.

What we cover

Commercial ventilation takes in a lot of kit. Here’s the ground our mechanical engineers handle directly.

Air handling units

AHU installation, service and maintenance — fans, filters, coils, belts, dampers and controls. On a service visit we check and change filters, inspect and clean coils, test fan drives and belts, prove damper and actuator operation, and log the condition of the unit so you can see what’s coming before it fails. Where a unit is past economic repair we’ll tell you plainly and quote the options, so choosing between refurbishment and replacement is a decision on evidence rather than guesswork.

Ductwork, supply and extract systems

Ductwork installation, supply and extract, from single plant rooms to full building distribution. New ductwork is installed to spec and, where the design calls for it, pressure-tested to DW/143 so leakage is proven rather than assumed. We also survey older systems to work out whether the ductwork needs refurbishing, sections replacing, or just cleaning and rebalancing.

Kitchen extract ventilation

Kitchen extract canopies, fans, ductwork and make-up air for commercial kitchens. Grease-laden extract is a fire risk and a compliance duty, so it needs cleaning to TR19 Grease at a frequency set by how hard the kitchen runs. We install, service and clean extract systems, and where the kitchen equipment sits alongside the ventilation our commercial catering team works on the same job.

Mechanical plant and pipework

The mechanical plant and the pipework around it — pumps, valves, plant connections and the pipe runs that tie a ventilation system into the building’s heating and cooling circuits. Because we also self-deliver plumbing and electrical work under our NICEIC approval, the wet side and the power and controls are covered by the same contractor rather than pulled in from outside. A plant room fit-out doesn’t need three separate firms coordinating around each other and passing the risk between them.

Ventilation that's maintained properly

Ventilation that isn’t maintained quietly costs you. Blocked filters and dirty coils make fans work harder and push up energy use. Poor supply and extract shows up as stale air, condensation and complaints. And several parts of a commercial system carry a legal duty, so a neglected system is a compliance problem waiting to be found.

Planned maintenance keeps it efficient and keeps you covered. We schedule AHU and extract servicing at the right interval, clean and test to the recognised standards, and give you the paperwork to prove it. Put it on a maintenance contract and we keep it scheduled, so nothing slips and reactive repairs are the exception rather than the norm. Contract clients get a faster response, and cover up to 24/7 where the contract calls for it. It also gives you a paper trail — service records and certificates you can hand to an auditor, an insurer or a main contractor without chasing around for them afterwards.

Ventilation for your sector

The right approach depends on the building. Commercial offices need quiet, balanced supply and extract that holds a comfortable environment without wasting energy. Hotels and hospitality sites live or die on kitchen extract that stays compliant under heavy use. Logistics and warehousing buildings need ventilation and make-up air that copes with high-bay heat gain and constant loading-door traffic without the running costs spiralling. Healthcare ventilation carries stricter requirements again around air quality and specialist spaces. We scope each one to what the building and the sector actually demand.

Talk to us about your ventilation

Whether it’s a new install, an AHU or extract system that needs bringing back up to standard, or planned maintenance you want to hand to one contractor, we’ll survey it and give you a straight answer. Call or email to arrange a site visit.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a commercial kitchen extract system need cleaning?
It depends on how hard the kitchen runs. A heavy-use kitchen running for many hours a day needs cleaning more often than a light-use one, and the TR19 Grease standard sets the frequency band by usage. We survey the system, tell you the interval that applies to your kitchen, and clean and document it to that standard.
Yes. Grease builds up inside extract canopies and ductwork and is a genuine fire risk, and most commercial insurers require the system to be cleaned and certified to TR19 Grease. If it isn’t and a fire starts in the extract, a claim can be refused. Documented cleaning at the right frequency is what keeps you covered.
Most commercial AHUs are serviced quarterly, though heavily loaded units or dirty environments may need more frequent visits. A visit covers filters, coils, fan drives, belts, dampers and controls, with the condition logged so problems are caught before they cause a breakdown. On a maintenance contract we schedule this automatically.
DW/143 is the recognised method for pressure-testing ductwork to confirm it’s airtight to the design. It’s typically required on new installations where the specification calls for it, so leakage is proven rather than assumed. We carry out the testing as part of a ductwork installation and provide the results.

Beyond Cooling — the wider Arctic Group

Arctic Cooling is the founding division of Arctic Group. Alongside us sit Arctic Scaffolding, Arctic Glazing and Arctic Fire — so where a project needs access built, a façade glazed or a fire compartment reinstated, it stays under one group, one set of accreditations and one point of
contact.
