Commercial electrical contractor | Arctic Cooling

NICEIC Approved commercial electrical contractor across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. Installation, EICR testing and repair, delivered by our own engineers.

Commercial electrical work, NICEIC approved

We are a commercial electrical contractor and an NICEIC Approved Contractor, delivering electrical installation, testing and repair across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. The work is carried out by our own engineers, and it’s often on the same sites as our air conditioning, refrigeration and mechanical work. That matters more than it sounds: when the power, the controls and the plant are all delivered by one firm, there’s no gap between trades for a fault to hide in and no argument over whose responsibility it is.

Arctic Cooling is based around Heathrow and works across West London, the Thames Valley, across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. We hold airside clearance at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted in our own name, so a good deal of our electrical work is done on live, security-controlled sites where the standard of certification is checked before anyone lifts a tool. If we can deliver that airside, we can deliver it in your building.

What we cover

Our electrical work sits across three areas, and most commercial jobs touch all three at some point.

Commercial electrical installation

New installations, additions and alterations to existing systems: distribution boards, sub-mains, containment, small power, lighting and lighting controls, and the supplies that feed mechanical and process plant. Every installation is certified and handed over with the correct paperwork, so your records stand up to inspection. This covers offices, hotels, healthcare sites, data centres, and logistics and warehousing units, where the electrical demand is heavier and the industrial side of the work comes into play.

Testing, inspection and remedial work
We carry out fixed-wire testing and issue the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) that tells you whether your installation is safe to stay in service. Where the report flags defects, we quote and carry out the remedial work rather than handing you a list and walking away. If you’re taking on a building, letting a unit, or simply keeping a maintenance record straight, the EICR is the document that proves the installation has been assessed against the national standard.
Power and controls for HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical plant

Most of the plant we install needs electrical supplies, isolation, and control wiring to work properly. We provide the power and controls for air conditioning, refrigeration and mechanical systems as part of the same job, so the electrical side is designed around the plant rather than bolted on afterwards by a separate firm who never saw the equipment. Faults get diagnosed faster, too, because the engineers who wired it are the ones who fitted the kit.

Why NICEIC Approved Contractor status matters

Anyone can call themselves an electrician. An NICEIC Approved Contractor has been independently assessed against the national standard for electrical work, with the assessment repeated on a regular cycle to keep the approval in place. It’s not a badge you buy once and keep. For a facilities manager, a main contractor or a building owner, that independent check is the difference between taking a contractor’s word for the quality of the work and having it verified by a body whose job is to verify it.

On commercial sites, and especially airside, that assurance isn’t optional. Principal contractors and airport operators ask for it up front, and the certification we issue has to match. Our NICEIC approval sits alongside the rest of our accreditations, including F-Gas certification, SafeContractor, Constructionline Gold, and manufacturer approvals with Daikin and Mitsubishi. You can see the full list on our accreditations page.

Working alongside our other trades

Electrical is one of seven trades we deliver in-house, which is the point of using us over separate firms. On a typical job the same contractor handles the air conditioning, the electrical supplies and controls, and the wider mechanical and ventilation work, from survey through to sign-off. One programme, one point of contact, one set of certificates that all agree with each other. When a plant room is being fitted out, that removes the usual delays where the electrician is waiting on the mechanical engineer, or neither will commit to a date.

Approaching 40 engineers across our trades means we can hold a programme and cover reactive call-outs at the same time. Same-day reactive attendance is available to all our clients, and maintenance-contract clients get a faster response and, where the contract provides for it, up to 24/7 cover.

Talk to us about your site

Tell us what you need, whether that’s a full installation, an EICR and remedial works, or the electrical side of a wider mechanical project. Get in touch and we’ll get an engineer to the right person. We’ve worked for clients including British Airways, CBRE, Heathrow, Fortnum & Mason and WHSmith, and we bring the same standard of certification to every site.

Frequently asked questions

What is an NICEIC Approved Contractor?
It’s an electrical contractor that has been independently assessed against the national standard for electrical installation work, with the assessment repeated on a regular cycle to keep the approval in place. It’s not a one-off certificate. For commercial clients it means the quality of the work has been verified by an outside body, not just claimed by the contractor.
On most commercial sites it’s expected, and on controlled sites such as airside work it’s checked before anyone starts. Principal contractors, facilities managers and building owners ask for the accreditation up front because the certification issued has to stand up to inspection. Using an NICEIC Approved Contractor gives you that assurance in writing.
An EICR, or Electrical Installation Condition Report, is a formal inspection and test of a building’s fixed wiring that records whether it’s safe to remain in service. How often you need one depends on the type of building and how it’s used [confirm typical EICR re-inspection interval for commercial premises]. Get in touch and we’ll tell you what applies to your site. Where the report flags defects, we quote and carry out the remedial work rather than leaving you with a list.
We deliver seven trades in-house, including electrical, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and mechanical and ventilation, so one contractor can cover the lot. That keeps the programme under one point of contact and avoids the blame-chain between separate firms when something goes wrong. It also means the electrical work is designed around the plant, because the same team fits both.

Beyond Cooling — the wider Arctic Group

Arctic Cooling is the founding division of Arctic Group. Alongside us sit Arctic Scaffolding, Arctic Glazing and Arctic Fire — so where a project needs access built, a façade glazed or a fire compartment reinstated, it stays under one group, one set of accreditations and one point of
contact.
