Commercial M&E contractor, cleared to work airside

Arctic Cooling looks after the plant that can’t stop: baggage screening halls, aircraft on stand, data rooms and hospital plant rooms. We cover five trades with our own engineers, so one firm owns the job from survey to sign-off.

We’ve traded since 2016, and we hold airside clearance at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted in our own name.

A commercial M&E contractor that works where it counts

Arctic Cooling is a commercial M&E contractor based around Heathrow, delivering mechanical and electrical building services across Heathrow, the Thames Valley and the wider West London and the M4 corridor. We self-deliver all seven of our trades in-house with our own engineers, so one firm carries the job from survey to sign-off. We’re approaching 40 engineers, we’ve traded since 2016, and we hold airside clearance at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted in our own name. That last point tells you most of what you need to know about how we work.

Proven where access is hardest

A live airport is one of the most controlled places in the country to work. Every engineer is vetted, every vehicle permitted, and every task is planned around operations that never pause. Our airside signatory status, driving permits and engineer passes are held by Arctic Cooling directly, not borrowed through a third party.

We hold multiple contracts for the cooling that keeps Hold Baggage Screening running at Heathrow, and we repair the Pre-Conditioned Air units that serve aircraft on stand. Every client gets the same planning and discipline.

One firm. One point of responsibility.

Most commercial M&E work gets split between separate firms: one for the air conditioning, another for the electrics, someone else for the pipework. When something goes wrong between trades, each one points at the next.

We were set up to remove that. Air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, catering, and mechanical and ventilation all sit in-house, backed by planned and reactive maintenance across every trade. That means one team to call and one team accountable for the result.

Scale and track record

We’re a commercial HVAC contractor with the depth to staff full projects and the responsiveness to handle call-outs. Approaching 40 engineers are employed and managed by us directly, backed by subcontractors when a programme needs the numbers. We’ve traded since 2016 — nearly a decade — and in that time we’ve built a client list that runs from airlines and airport operators to national retail and property management.

Clients include British Airways, CBRE, American Airlines, Fortnum & Mason, Heathrow and WHSmith. The sectors we know best are aviation and airports, data centres, logistics and warehousing, hotels and hospitality, healthcare, and commercial offices. Each one has its own rules, its own uptime demands and its own way of working — a data centre and a hotel kitchen don’t fail in the same way, and the contractor working on either needs to know that before they arrive on site. See how we handle them across our sectors page.

On geography, we’re built around Heathrow — our office sits in Longford, West Drayton, right on the airport’s doorstep. West London and the Thames Valley are our core — Hounslow, Slough, Staines, Uxbridge and the M4/M25 corridor — then Greater London, then the wider West London and the M4 corridor. Our airside clearance at Gatwick and Stansted is why we work confidently down into Surrey and Sussex and out into Essex.

Accreditations that stand up to scrutiny

Facilities managers and main contractors check credentials before they check anything else, so ours are held and current. We’re F-Gas certified for refrigerant handling, SafeContractor approved, and hold Constructionline Gold, the higher membership tier on the industry’s main pre-qualification database. Our electrical trade carries NICEIC Approved Contractor status for commercial work. On top of that, we hold Daikin D1 status — Daikin’s highest installer tier, which lets us offer extended manufacturer warranties on Daikin kit — and we’re a Mitsubishi approved partner. Between them, these accreditations cover most of what a procurement team checks before they’ll put a contractor on a tender list. The full list, with what each one means for your job, is on our accreditations page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a commercial M&E contractor, and how is it different from a main contractor?
M&E stands for mechanical and electrical — the building services that make a commercial space work, from air conditioning and ventilation to power and pipework. A main contractor runs an entire build or fit-out and subcontracts the trades out; an M&E contractor delivers the mechanical and electrical works directly. Arctic Cooling self-delivers all seven of its trades in-house, so one firm is accountable for the M&E from survey to sign-off.

One accountable contractor removes the blame-chain you get when separate firms each deliver a slice of the job and point at each other when something fails. It also makes scheduling easier, because the trades are planned against each other instead of chased between different companies. Arctic self-delivers seven trades in-house with minimal subcontracting, so there’s a single point of responsibility for the whole job.

Yes. Airside work needs personal vetting, engineer passes, and driving permits, and only cleared firms can hold signatory status. Arctic Cooling is cleared to work airside at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, with those passes and permits held directly in our own name rather than borrowed through a third party.

We offer same-day reactive call-out for all clients. Maintenance-contract clients get a faster response and can have up to 24/7 cover written into their agreement, which is a benefit of holding a contract with us rather than a blanket promise to every caller.
