Commercial refrigeration installation & repair | Arctic

F-Gas certified commercial refrigeration across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor. Cold rooms, walk-ins and process cooling installed, maintained and repaired.

Commercial and process refrigeration

When the cooling stops, your stock and your process stop with it. A failed walk-in can write off a full load of chilled or frozen stock in a few hours, and on a production or distribution site it halts the line. We install, service and repair commercial refrigeration across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor, and we keep it running with planned maintenance and fast reactive cover. One contractor handles it from the first survey to sign-off, so when something goes wrong there’s no argument about whose problem it is.

Refrigeration is one of seven trades we self-deliver in-house with our own engineers. We’re approaching 40 engineers, trading since 2016. That matters on a live site: the same team that installed the cold room is the team that maintains it and answers the call-out, and they already know the plant.

Refrigeration faults aren’t always refrigeration faults. A compressor that won’t start is as likely to be a failed contactor or a tripped electrical supply as it is a refrigerant problem. Electrical is one of our seven trades too, so the same team can look at both without you having to bring in a second contractor and start the explanation again.

What we work on

We cover the full range of commercial and industrial refrigeration, from a single bottle cooler behind a bar to process cooling that a business runs on. Whatever the scale, the approach is the same: survey the actual duty, size the plant to it, and back the installation with maintenance and cover rather than leaving it to fail before anyone looks at it.

Cold rooms, freezer rooms and walk-ins

Design, supply and cold room installation for new-build and refit, plus repairs and upgrades to existing rooms. Chilled rooms, freezer rooms and combined ranges, sized to the stock and the door traffic they actually see rather than a rule of thumb. We handle the panel work, the refrigeration plant, controls and the safety kit a room needs to pass inspection, including the temperature monitoring and door alarms a food business needs for its own records.

Process and industrial refrigeration
Cooling that a process depends on: production, cold storage, and plant where a stoppage is measured in lost output, not just lost stock. We survey the duty properly and build in the resilience the site needs, then keep it maintained so the failure never lands mid-shift. What that resilience looks like varies by site: standby plant, tighter monitoring, or a maintenance schedule built around your production calendar rather than a generic one. It starts with understanding what actually happens on your site if the cooling stops, before we spec anything.
Cellar cooling and bottle coolers
Cellar cooling for pubs, bars and hotels, plus under-counter and back-bar bottle coolers. Warm beer and short-dated stock cost you sales, so these get the same planned attention as the bigger plant.
Display and catering refrigeration

Serve-over counters, display cabinets, prep fridges and the refrigeration inside a working commercial kitchen. Where a fault ties into wider kitchen plant, it sits alongside our commercial catering equipment trade, so one team can look at the whole line.

Keeping it running

Anyone can turn up when a fridge has already failed. The point of a maintenance contract is that most faults are caught before they cost you anything. On planned refrigeration maintenance visits we check refrigerant charge and pressures, clean condensers, test controls and safety devices, look at door seals and defrost cycles, and log the leak checks the law requires. A blocked condenser or a slow refrigerant leak shows up on a scheduled visit for the price of a service, not at 2am as a full breakdown with a room full of ruined stock.

Reactive cover backs it up. Every client gets a same-day reactive call-out. Maintenance-contract clients get a faster committed response and, depending on the contract, cover up to 24/7 for the plant that can’t be left waiting. If you’re facing a live breakdown right now, our emergency call-out is the quickest way to reach us.

All of it is done by F-Gas certified engineers. That’s not a nice-to-have on commercial refrigeration, it’s a legal requirement for anyone handling refrigerant, and it’s why the leak checks and refrigerant records we keep stand up if you’re ever audited. F-Gas certification sits alongside the rest of our accreditations, including SafeContractor, Constructionline Gold and manufacturer approvals with Daikin and Mitsubishi.

Who we work for

Refrigeration is business-critical in a handful of sectors, and those are the ones we spend most of our time in. We’re based around Heathrow and work across Heathrow, West London and the M4 corridor.
Logistics and warehousing, where cold storage and process cooling protect stock at scale and a stoppage backs up the whole operation. Hotels and hospitality, where cellar cooling, kitchen refrigeration and display counters all have to hold temperature through service. And commercial kitchens and food businesses more generally, where a walk-in going down is a same-day stock and food-safety problem.

Then there’s aviation and airports. We hold airside signatory status, driving permits and engineer passes at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, all held directly in Arctic Cooling’s own name rather than borrowed through another contractor. Our flagship airside work includes repairing Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) units, the refrigeration plant that feeds conditioned air to parked aircraft on stand. If we can keep that running airside at a live airport, we can look after the plant in your building.

Whether you’re speccing a new cold room, weighing up a maintenance contract, or dealing with a breakdown today, call or email and we’ll get an engineer on it. For a live failure, use the emergency call-out line.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a commercial refrigeration system be serviced?
Most commercial refrigeration should be serviced at least twice a year, and heavily used or business-critical plant more often than that. A planned maintenance contract sets the right frequency for your kit and covers the F-Gas leak checks you’re legally required to keep records of, so nothing gets missed.
Yes. Anyone handling refrigerant on commercial refrigeration must hold F-Gas certification by law, and the work has to be logged correctly. All of our refrigeration engineers are F-Gas certified, so your leak checks and refrigerant records stand up if you’re audited.
Usually, yes. Planned visits catch faults like a slow refrigerant leak or a blocked condenser early, for the price of a service, before they turn into a full breakdown with ruined stock. Contract clients also get a faster committed response and, depending on the contract, cover up to 24/7.
Every client gets a same-day reactive call-out. Maintenance-contract clients get a faster committed response time and, where the contract includes it, cover up to 24/7 for plant that can’t be left waiting. For a live failure, use our emergency call-out line.
A walk-in fridge holds chilled temperatures for short-term stock, a walk-in freezer holds frozen, and ‘cold room’ is the general term for a built walk-in space at either temperature. Which one you need comes down to what you’re storing and for how long, and we’ll size and spec it on survey rather than guess.

Beyond Cooling — the wider Arctic Group

Arctic Cooling is the founding division of Arctic Group. Alongside us sit Arctic Scaffolding, Arctic Glazing and Arctic Fire — so where a project needs access built, a façade glazed or a fire compartment reinstated, it stays under one group, one set of accreditations and one point of
contact.
